Internal Medicine Residency, Pediatrics, MedPeds

For over a decade, I have maintained a conceptual continuity in my academic, professional, research, and volunteer careers, a direct path to serving the poor, sick, and needy at all costs through the field of Medicine.  Being born into a family that has always encouraged utilizing to the fullest extent our inherent gifts, I have excelled in every academic venture I have undertaken.  I have adopted my parents’ standards of how to conduct yourself in life, to be disciplined, persistent in your pursuits, and above all, to work hard at everything you do.  Combined with this is how impressed I have been with the compassionate and selfless service of the physicians I have seen in my homeland of India.  Their work has been inspirational for me and, indeed, where my passion lies.

I was first introduced to Internal Medicine and Pediatrics during my internship rotations.  I was fascinated by the sheer diversity of cases and the amount of direct patient contact.  The approach of dealing with the patient as a totality struck me as being sensible, and logical, and, as a result, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics became the fields in which I wanted to explore in greater depth.  Throughout my education, I have steadfastly believed that a good physician must be committed to excellence in all aspects of healthcare, be it medical education, patient care, or research.  And what greater satisfaction in my career could I have than to be the primary medical caregiver to a patient, as an Internist or Pediatrician?

Becoming board certified will enable me to bring a number of my aspirations, goals, and, indeed, my dreams to reality.  As a thriving community clinician, I will hold a sacred and trusted role, one that I will take with the greatest seriousness.  Moreover, I will be able to use my practice as a jumping-off point for volunteerism, bringing compassionate care to underserved, uninsured populations.

I bring with me to the residency program a solid, decorated academic foundation in Medicine, proof of which is evident in my having earned a gold medal from my medical school and competitive USMLE scores in the US.  What is more, I bring a body of practical experiences, direct-patient exposure earned as a resident internist and later a primary care physician, work that has prepared me for the opportunity and challenge of a demanding medical residency program.  Having participated as a volunteer in two nationalized preventative healthcare programs, I have a very high level of ability to interact effectively with diverse patients, from all walks of life, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as stalwart communication skills combined with a high degree of enthusiasm for all that I set out my mind to.

Any professional medical needs to keep up to date with the latest advances, techniques, and technologies in their field.  To this end, I hold professional medical memberships, have published research work, and have participated in several conferences.  I have learned that being able to perform medicine well is just as important as being able to interact with and speak intelligently about our field with our colleagues and extended research community.

Coming to America was a choice to immerse myself in the finest education and healthcare system in the world.  The sheer range of opportunities in the US is simply staggering.  In truth, the US healthcare system is only increasing its representation of myriad diverse patients.  To meet this need, doctors need to be, as many medical programs indicate, “culturally competent.”  In the most practical sense, with my trilingual abilities and having lived, worked, and been educated on two different continents, I feel I will be able to meet my culturally diverse patients’ unique needs well.

I look forward to developing myself further in a quality medical residency assignment, not just for myself, but the patients and communities I will go on to serve.  Thank you for your time and kind consideration.
